ORGANIZING FOR SUCCESS
Goals and
Vision:-
Every event,
every incident and, in fact, everyone has a purpose in life. Each one of us has
a unique or special talent. When we blend this unique talent with service to
others we experience an ecstasy and exultation in our lives. This may be
expressed or unexpressed and is the goal which we cherish. When you work, you
are just like a flute through whose heart the whispering of time turns to
music. What is it to work with love? It is to weave the cloth with threads
drawn from your heart as if your beloved were to wear that cloth. By a
conscious effort you should train your mind to look for something bright
instead of being morose. You should view your problems as challenges and
opportunities to prove your mettle. You have to devise your own skills to
tackle your problems.
It is specific goals
You have to plan
solutions based on your intellect and intuition. You should learn from the
experiences of others rather than learn the hard way, that is to say, by making
and repeating the mistakes made by you and others. You should divide your
difficulties and problems into easily manageable segments. Then tackle each
segment separately. Conceive all possible solutions for the problems and weigh
the pros and cons of each. Do not hesitate to use your intuitive and reasoning
power to decide the best possible solutions. Always have a goal in front of you
as it is the goals which keep you going. Keep up your momentum in fixing and
achieving one goal after the other. Develop yourself and grow up with your
goals. Remember that nothing in life is achieved without a few setbacks and
disappointments. Get back to your goals after doing mid-course as all ships,
missiles and rockets do Goals-setting should be as essential as preparing the
list of things to do or the shopping to be done. It is specific goals which
take us where we want to go. Setting goals is the same thing as making a
shopping list. One you make for your day-to-day living, the other you make to
become what you want to become. Henry ford used to say, ‘‘whether you think you
will succeed or not, you are right.’’
A successful
man never imposes nor even dreams of limitations on himself by doubting whether
he will succeed or not. A successful man looks at the problems facing him as
opportunities to learn and to move forward. He makes a commitment to himself to
do his best. On this subject it has been tightly commented by W.N. Mury, ‘‘Until
one is committed here is hesitancy, the chance to draw back always,
ineffectiveness concerning all acts of initiative and creation. There is one
elementary truth. Ignorance kills countless ideas and splendid plans. The
moment one definitely commits himself then providence moves, too. All sorts of
things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred. A whole
stream of events issues from the decision rising in one’s favour. All manner of
unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamt
of then come your way. A successful
person knows that only when he is serious and committed will he achieve his
objective. The very fact of desire to achieve unlocks his genius and energy to
achieve his definite main aim. It is only the decision to achieve which leads
to achievement. He does whatever it takes to achieve. To be successful you
should enjoy whatever you are doing or have set your mind to achieve. Doing
well is a reward in itself. Learn to work for the love of work and get
involved. The only road to success is through clear and unambiguous purpose. The
Gita says that you have the right to work but for the sake of word only. You
have no right to the fruits of the work. Desire for the fruits of work must
never be your motive in working. Never give way to laziness either. A
successful man is generally happy because he likes what he does. Failure hurts
but it is more hurting when failure comes your way because you did not give
your best. Things improve when we ourselves improve. There is no magic wand to
make things and circumstance better. It is a fact of life that despite doing
your best sometimes you cannot eliminate failure and disappointments. Doing
your best itself is rewarding in boosting your own self-respect. You have to be
persistent in your efforts to succeed. It has been right said that persistence
is at the back of success. Calvin Coolidge said:
‘‘Nothing in
the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not. Nothing is more
common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not. Unrewarded genius is
almost a proverb. Education will not. The world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan: ‘press
on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.’’
Persistence
is the main input for success and winning anything that one undertakes. Thomas
Edison, the inventor of bulb and the gramophone, said ‘‘Genius is one percent inspiration and
ninety-nine percent perspiration. I never did anything worthwhile by an
accident nor did any of my inventions come by accident. They came by work.’’
Another great achiever said, ‘‘if people knew how hard i have worked it would
not seem wonderful at all.’’ ‘‘ A man with half a volition goes backwards and
forwards and makes no way on the smoothest road; a man with a whole volition
advances on the roughest and will reach his purpose even if there be little
wisdom in it. The man without a purpose
is like a ship without a rudder, a waif a nothing, no man. Have a purpose in
life and having it throw such strength of mind, muscle into your work as God
has give you,’’ says Carlyle. A firm purpose is at least half-equal to the deed
itself. Success lies in the constancy of purpose. For joy, happiness and
success the bests way is to have a small baggage of needs, moderate expectations
coupled with high aspirations and ambitions. Inaction should never be allowed
to dominate your intellect. If you do so, it is almost like iron which rusts
due to disuse. Aristotle said, ‘‘moral excellence comes about as a result of
habit. We become just by doing just act, temperate by doing temperate acts,
brave by doing brave acts.’’ You may to learn about the past but do not wallow
in it. One way to be happy and successful is to get a job you love doing.
Alternatively love whatever job you are to do. You should never feel that you
are just working in your job. You should enjoy doing it. To be a success you
have to take charge of decision-making at whatever level you are working no
matter how painful that may be. Feelings should not matter. Sys W.M. Thackeray:
‘‘the word is a looking glass and gives back to every man the reflection of his
own face. Frown at it and it will in turn look sourly at you. Laugh at it and
with it and it is a jolly kind companion.’’ Every man has some quality which is
unique in him. We can always learn something from every man. That man is most
happy and infuses his life with joy who thinks creatively with new and
interesting thoughts. There is everything in his life and world to make you
happy. The only condition is that you yourself must be willing to accept it.
